Kristan Hawkins is the executive director of Students for Life of America, an organization that trains and educates college students to be leaders in the pro-life movement.
Hawkins on Health Care for Special Needs Children
In addition to mandating abortion, the health care bill also mandates rationed medical care, especially those for special needs. Hawkins is concerned for her son Gunner who has cystic fibrosis, a chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.
The health care systems in Great Britain and Canada ration care to the most vulnerable among us because their lives are not as valued as those of the healthy. Obama is quoted saying, “the chronically ill and those towards the ends of their lives are counting for potentially 80% of the total health care bill, and therefore we will have to make a difficult and democratic decisions to give guidance when those patients will receive life saving treatments.”
Hawkins: “My son’s care will be rationed. This will mean the difference of life and death.”
Bottom Line: If we don’t value the lives of the vulnerable unborn, then how are we to value the lives of the vulnerable chronically ill?
